Looking like a flying saucer, the Theme Building greets visitors to LA as they arrive at LAX.  The gorgeous white structure sits elegantly on its legs, perched high above the ground.  It was opened in 1961 and stands as a classic example of Mid-Century Modern, or Googie, architecture.  It has undergone numerous renovations and in 1997, the 60s-style restaurant Encounter opened inside.  The observation deck, closed after the September 11th attacks, recently reopened to great hub-ub and fanfare.
